David Perdue submits paperwork to run in Georgia’s US Senate race in 2022

According to a person familiar with Perdue, he is leaning towards a new campaign.

If he decides to run, Perdue will face Senator Raphael Warnock, the senior pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Warnock and Jon Ossoff beat Republican Sens Kelly Loeffler and Perdue in January, respectively, and overturned the Senate. The two Democrats were elected to the Senate from Georgia for the first time in 20 years.
Perdue said in a statement at the time: “Although we won the general election, we have only reached 50% of the government of Georgia, and now I want to congratulate the Democratic Party and my opponent on this victory.”

“Bonnie and I will continue to pray for our wonderful condition and our great country. May God continue to bless Georgia and the United States of America.”

Perdue’s campaign came under considerable scrutiny after he intentionally mispronounced Kamala Harris’ name. He was also forced to pull off a digital ad attacking Ossoff, which enlarged the Democrat’s nose, a feature of an anti-Semitic herd.

A spokesman for the campaign at the time called the distorted image “accidental … but to ensure there was absolutely no confusion, we immediately removed the image from Facebook.”

The spokesman said Perdue had a “strong and consistent record of standing firm against anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred” and co-sponsored a 2019 resolution condemning anti-Semitism.

While the tight political calendar in January meant Perdue was not in office when Congress convened for a joint sitting on Electoral College, he told Fox News before the count that he had the side of the objectors when he disseminated incorrect information about election fraud.

“I urge my colleagues to object. This is something the American people are demanding at the moment,” Perdue said at the time. “There are major irregularities in Georgia. In my opinion, they need to be investigated, and they need to be rectified.”
