The Houston-Texans have restructured the feedback from David Johnson’s contract, which will now be worth up to $ 6 million in 2021, including $ 4.25 million that was fully guaranteed at the time of signing, a source told ESPN.
Johnson might have been a casualty in the salary cap if he had not restructured his contract.
Johnson would have owed nearly $ 9 million in 2021, of which only $ 2.1 million was guaranteed, before agreeing to the restructured agreement.
Houston traded for Johnson in March 2020 in a deal that sent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals.
Johnson ran 147 runs for 691 yards and six shots last season. He played in only 12 games, and had three with a concussion and one while on the reserve / COVID-19 list.
When the Texans traded for Johnson a year ago, former general manager and head coach Bill O’Brien, who was fired in October, was done. At the time, Johnson had the lowest production in his career, giving away the keys to the Houston backfield.
Johnson’s best season took place for the Cardinals in 2016, when he was selected to his only Pro Bowl and was a first-team All-Team after hitting his career-best in running yards (1,239), quick tackles (16), reception (80), reception yard (879) and yards of scrimmage (2,118, which led the NFL).
