Tom Brady’s Lombardi Trophy boat hunt that went viral on Wednesday did not go well with one woman from Fort Myers, Florida, who said the throw was an insult to her family’s legacy.
“It just upset me that this trophy was brought into disrepute and despised by being thrown as if it were real football,” Lorraine Grohs told Fox4.
The 43-year-old quarterback threw the Lombardi Trophy from his yacht to someone on another boat during the Buccaneers boat trip on the Hillsborough River to celebrate the 2021 Super Bowl victory over the Chiefs.
This upset Grohs, the daughter of Greg Grohs, the master silversmith at Tiffany and Company, from 1967 to 1994, who produced the first Vince Lombardi trophy.
She said the seven-time Super Bowl champion despises the trophy and the people who work on it.
“I have a great history that this trophy was made by my father, and it’s such an honor and I know all the craftsmen who made it when my father was also there at Tiffany’s, and it takes a lot of hard work,” said Grohs.
Grohs now wants Brady to say he’s sorry.
“I personally want to apologize, not only to me and my family and the other silversmiths, but also to the fans, all the football fans and the other team players,” she said.
Groh told the network that Brady’s trophy made her so upset that she had sleepless nights because he treated her father’s passion for the trophy so lightly.
“I saw this trophy made in the factory in Tiffany, and it’s a beautiful trophy,” Grohs said. ‘My father had to chisel the seams. He had to chisel the seams by hand. There is a newspaper article showing how he is working on the trophy. The ball is shaped by hand and the base is also. Grohs explains.
Grohs, who has said she’s not a huge football fan, is always waiting for the end of the Super Bowl so she can see the Lombardi Trophy celebration the Super Bowl winner receives.
“I’m just watching the game to see how the trophy comes out,” she said. ‘I like to see all the owners and the footballers keep it just as proud and keep it and show it to everyone and I get goosebumps. … Like now I get chicken skin. ”
Brady also attracted more attention when he needed the help of an escort to walk while returning to the country following the liquor parade.
But it looks like Brady has finished his party and is ready to go back to work.
On Saturday, he worked again with coach Alex Guerrero according to a photo posted by TB12 Sports on Twitter. This included the hashtag # EyesOn8.
