Colts linebacker Darius Leonard did not expect Philip Rivers to retire.
Leonard told SiriusXM NFL Radio that it was a “complete shockTo hear that Rivers is walking away because he feels that Rivers is doing well in his lonely season with the team and will play well again in 2021. The decision left a big hole in the Colts offense, but Leonard said he does not give much thought to what the team needs to do to fill it.
General manager Chris Ballard is looking for a new starter and Leonard says he “will trust the guys in the front office and can drop the chips where they fall.”
“I look at it, but I’m not invested in it emotionally, because it honestly does not matter to me who the quarterback is, as long as the quarterback has the right mentality again and they will help us win ball games,” Leonard said. . “I do not care if he is young. I do not care if he is old. I do not care if he is a celebrity. If you come in and put the team first and we will help you win ball games, then come down to the Indianapolis Colts. ”
The Colts were allegedly one of the teams to make an offer for Matthew Stafford before the Lions agreed to send him to the Rams, and they were linked with the pursuit of Eagles full-back Carson Wentz. That may not be the direction they’re going, but it does not sound like Leonard will lose any sleep over how it plays out.
