The rumors of Darcy Lewis in MCU projects outside of her WandaVision return may correct a mistake Marvel made with Jane Foster in Avengers: Endgame.
Darcy Lewis returns to MCU WandaVision and actress Kat Dennings has confirmed she’s doing ‘things’ for Marvel, which means the MCU could fix a bug by Jane Foster outside Avengers: Endgame. Darcy, or dr. Lewis, joined the SWORD and FBI agents stationed outside Scarlet Witch’s hexagonal barrier, which Darcy called ‘the hex’. It is important that Darcy was recruited by SWORD for her expertise in astrophysics, after obtaining a doctorate in the field after her internship with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) in Thor.
When she was introduced to the MCU, Jane Foster was known as one of the leading astrophysicists on earth, yet she was mysteriously absent from the MCU after Thor: The Dark World – even if she would have been the perfect character in the MCU to study the multiverse timeline, alternative branches and the Quantum Realm. Instead, characters like Tony Stark and Bruce Banner – who are brilliant engineers, physicists and biochemists – take over the roles of explaining the multiversity, when astrophysicist Jane Foster would be more suited to the job.

Darcy’s return in WandaVision and continued MCU presence enables the possibility of her character becoming a spiritual successor to Jane Foster, who will also return to the MCU, but in a very different capacity. When Jane becomes Lady Thor, Darcy can take over the leading astrophysicist of the universe and prove that she’s a worthy asset to the superpowered beings who honestly extract too much information from the air rather than consult experts. Especially when the interests of events such as Endgame involves the fate of ‘normal’ people who rarely have a say in what happens to them outside of combatants. With her rise in WandaVision as a prominent astrophysicist of rival Jane Foster, the MCU shows how far Darcy has come since Thor and teasing how far she could go, which would repair the injustice of Foster being removed Endgame where she should have played a key role.
In the first Thor Darcy Lewis was introduced to the MCU as Jane Foster’s intern, although Jane Foster is an astrophysicist and Darcy was a political scientist at the time. The joke was that Darcy was the only applicant for the job, despite her lack of experience in astrophysics. By the time Darcy appeared Thor 2, it was clear that she was interested in the field – undoubtedly inspired by the brilliance and passion of her mentor and friend, Jane Foster. In addition, she has become a knowledgeable expert in a very narrow field. Her WandaVision her role has already established her as the key to SWORD to understand what is happening to Wanda and why, and more importantly, what impact it may have on the fabric of reality. Since the MCU has a big multi-arc going on, Darcy’s role needs to be expanded to continue to make her the font of knowledge.
It is currently unknown if Darcy will return in an MCU movie, television show or anything else. As Dennings told Extra, ‘There are a few things I did for Marvel. ‘ Other possibilities include video games or theme park rides (Disney adds an Avengers theme in Disney’s California Adventure), but Dennings has mostly not ruled out the potential for Darcy to appear in. Thor: Love and thunder. Fundamentally, as dr. Darcy Lewis could have continued her somehow WandaVision position as an adviser to SWORD and the Avengers, it would fill the void left by Jane Foster and return an important voice in superhero dynamics.
