D’Angelo has released three albums over the past 26 years, the last of which was 2014’s Black Messiah with The Vanguard, and rumors of an impending EP have been circulating at this point for, oh, at least two years. If you were hoping for a sign of life from the beloved R&B star, his scheduled appearance in an upcoming Verzuz fight might just be the signal you’re looking for. On Sunday, the official Verzuz Instagram account announced that D’Angelo will face off against still unannounced ‘friends’ on Saturday 27 February at 20:00 ET. The program is broadcast from Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater.
“Who do you think is attacking the King on February 27?”, Teases the series, created by Timbaland and Swizz Beats, in the report. “Surely a legendary evening!” As for ‘friends’ at D’Angelo, you have to ask yourself: who is not the D’Angelo D’Angelo?
