Lions coach Dan Campbell says the trade talks of Matthew Stafford are underway.
Campbell has Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that Stafford talks’hot and heavy. Ilan Rapoport of NFL Network adds that a deal is expected to be agreed before the Super Bowl, although the trade can not be completed until the beginning of the league year in March.
The Lions and Stafford have mutually agreed that Stafford will be traded, and the only remaining question is where he is going and how much the Lions will get back. The team is looking for at least one draft in the first round.
After being traded to Stafford, the Lions begin the long process of building a team that is now at the bottom of the league in terms of its overall talent level. The good news for the Lions is that they will rebuild with a healthy amount of hood space and pull options. Campbell and the new general manager, Brad Holmes, need the ammunition to turn things around.
