Dallas County reports 1,698 new cases of coronavirus, 22 deaths; Tarrant County adds 24 deaths

Dallas County reported 1,698 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, as well as another 22 deaths due to COVID-19.

Sixteen of the youngest victims were Dallas residents: a man in his 40s, a man in his 50s, four men in their 60s, four men and a woman in their 70s, three men and a woman in their 80s and a man in his 90s. One of the men in his 60s, the woman and one of the men in their 80s and the man in his 90s lived in long-term care facilities. The man in his 40s and one of the men in his 60s were found dead in their homes.

The other victims were a Coppell woman in her 90s living in a long-term care facility, a DeSoto woman in her 80s, a Garland man in his 80s, an Irving woman in her 50s, a Mesquite -woman in her 70s and a Richardson man in his 70s who lived in a long-term care facility.

The Richardson man and the Dallas man in his 60s who were found dead did not have underlying health conditions that would put them at higher risk for COVID-19 complications, officials said.

District Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that although last week was the country’s deadliest under the pandemic, some key statistics are declining, including the average number of daily cases and testing of the positivity rate at provincial hospitals.

“These are encouraging trends, and I hope these numbers continue to decline,” Jenkins said.

Of the new cases, 1,476 were confirmed and 222 likely.

The newly reported cases bring the province to 248,518, including 219,515 confirmed cases and 29,003 probable cases. The death toll stands at 2,030.

Health officials use hospitalizations, admissions to intensive care and emergency visits as key statistics to track the real-time impact of COVID-19 in the country. Due to a backlog in reporting over weekends, this data will be available next Tuesday.

According to state data, 107,855 people in Dallas County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 19,490 were fully vaccinated.

Texas

Across the state, 6,319 more cases were reported Monday, including 5,897 new cases and 422 older cases recently reported by laboratories.

The state also reported 72 COVID-19 deaths, which increased its toll to 34,394.

Of the new cases, 5,205 were confirmed and 692 likely. Of the older cases, 319 were confirmed and 103 likely.

The newly reported cases bring the state to 2,246,745, including 1,965,585 confirmed cases and 281,160 probable cases.

There are 12,785 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 3,569 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Sunday, 21.8% of the patients in the hospital region treating the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients – above the 15% threshold used by the state to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate across the country for molecular tests, based on the date of collection of the test sample, was 14.8% as of Sunday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 9.5%. A molecular test is considered more accurate and is sometimes also called a PCR test; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott said a positive rate of more than 10% is cause for concern.

According to state data, 1,488,783 people in Texas received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 265,786 were fully vaccinated.

Tarrant county

Tarrant County on Monday reported 1,260 cases of coronavirus and 24 deaths.

Ten of the youngest victims were residents of Arlington: two men and a woman in their 50s, a woman in her 60s, a man in his 70s, a man and two women in their 80s and a man and a woman over 90. Six more living in North Richland Hills: two men in their 60s, two men and a woman in their 70s and a woman over 90.

The other victims were three men from Fort Worth, in their 50s, 60s and 70s; three residents of Watauga, a man and two women over 90; a man from Haltom City in his 80s; and a Hurst man in his 60s.

Both, but two, have underlying high-risk health conditions, officials said.

Of the new cases, 1,061 were confirmed and 199 likely.

The newly reported cases bring the province to 208,325, including 180,135 confirmed cases and 28,190 probable cases. The death toll stands at 2,072.

According to the province, 1,287 people will be admitted to hospital from Sunday.

According to state data, 85,716 people in Tarrant County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 8,383 were fully vaccinated.

Collin county

The state on Monday added 835 cases of coronavirus and two deaths.

No details about the latest victims were available.

Of the new cases, 775 have been confirmed and 60 likely.

The newly reported cases bring the province to 68,943, including 59,538 confirmed cases and 9,405 probable cases. The death toll stands at 533.

According to the province, 500 people are being admitted to hospital with the virus.

According to state data, 41,035 people in Collin County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 7,599 were fully vaccinated.

Denton county

Denton County reported 629 cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths on Monday.

Five of the youngest victims were residents of Prestonwood Court in Plano: a woman in her 70s, a man over 80 and three women over 80. Four victims were residents of Denton: two men over 80, one of whom in Anthology or Denton, and two women over the age of 80 who lived in the Good Samaritan Society Denton Village.

The other victims were a Flower Mound man in his 60s and a Lewisville man over 80 who was a resident of Beehive Assisted Living.

The newly reported cases bring the province to 50,439, including 30,347 confirmed cases and 10,092 probable cases. The death toll stands at 294.

According to the province, 170 people with the virus are being admitted to hospital.

According to state data, 23,013 people in Denton County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 4,180 were fully vaccinated.

Other provinces

The Texas Department of Public Health has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some provinces, new data is not reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 8,789 cases (7,332 confirmed and 1,457 probable), 86 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 12,327 cases (10,718 confirmed and 1,609 probable), 171 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 17,597 cases (15,497 confirmed and 2,100 likely), 219 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 15,615 cases (13,860 confirmed and 1,755 likely), 237 deaths.
