Dallas County launches registration, a pre-screening site for early vaccine distributions

The Dallas County Department of Health on Saturday opened a new registration website for medical workers and certain other people at risk of participating in the early rounds of COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

“As more vaccine becomes available, we will work through the registration list and be eligible,” said Dr. Phillip Huang, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, said in a prepared statement from officials on Saturday. “We hope to receive additional grants from the state soon so that we can continue to work with our partners and meet the needs of our community and make the turn in the fight against this virus.”

People in stages 1A and 1B, as defined by the Texas Department of Health Services, can go online to be pre-screened to receive a DCHHS vaccine as it becomes available. Other providers in the country may be eligible for vaccination in other ways.

Phase 1A includes health workers and residents of long-term care facilities. Phase 1B includes people older than 65 years and people with underlying health conditions. The province’s registration process is only open to people in those categories.

To register, residents can go to dallascounty.org/covid-19/covid-19-vaccination.php. Registrants will be notified of the following steps as the vaccine becomes available.

Amid widespread confusion and criticism over the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines in Texas, state leaders are urging hospitals and other providers who have received deliveries to move the priority away from populations.  One vaccine scientist says the state's

“At the moment we have no remaining vaccine, but we expect more from the state soon,” Dallas judge Clay Jenkins said in the prepared statement. ‘We still have people in phase 1A who need to get the vaccine, even if we start with phase 1B.

‘At this time, this DCHHS website will only report Dallas County residents, and those with the highest vulnerability scores will be preferred within 1B until more vaccine is available. In the meantime, we are working with the DFW Hospital Board and others to set up fair and rapid vaccinations nationwide. ”
