Daily US data on April 12

The U.S. reported 4.6 million doses of vaccination on Saturday, a one-day record and another 3.6 million shots given on Sunday. This brings the daily average doses administered over the past week to 3.1 million.

At the same time, the country reports 70,000 new coronavirus infections per day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, a level in line with last summer’s boom, when the average number of cases fell to 67,000 at the end of July.

No state records more daily infections on a per capita basis than Michigan, according to a CNBC analysis of Hopkins data, with daily case counts and hospitalizations that were near the state’s previous peaks and Covid-19 deaths there.

US Covid business

Hopkins’ data shows that the U.S. reported an average of 70,000 new Covid-19 cases daily in the past week. While well below the country’s winter peak of about 250,000 new cases per day, it is consistent with the number of cases reported during the country’s “second wave” during the summer, which were record highs at the time.

Michigan sees nearly 7,400 daily average new cases, approaching the state’s record level of more than 8,300 per day recorded in December. Government Gretchen Whitmer on Friday asked high schools to personally stop learning and asked residents to restrict activities. The governor also called for schools to voluntarily suspend sporting events and for residents not to eat for two weeks, in order to delay distribution.

The death toll in Michigan is also increasing. The state reports an average of 43 Covid deaths per day during the past week, up from 30 a week earlier.

According to Hopkins data, the average number of daily cases increased by 5% or more than a week ago in 29 states.

US Covid deaths

According to Hopkins, the U.S. reported an average of 981 deaths per day in Covid-19 in the past week.

The latest U.S. trend toward coronavirus deaths is overshadowed by a massive release of about 1,800 deaths from Oklahoma. These deaths are currently all reported on April 7, 2021, although they have been occurring for weeks or months. The Oklahoma Department of Health has announced that the state is moving to data reporting guidelines in line with the requirements for disease control and prevention centers, which are the cause of this increase.

Prior to this report, the daily Covid mortality rate in the US pulled down from the record levels seen in January.

US vaccine shots given

According to the CDC, the country administered a one-day record of 4.6 million doses of vaccine on Saturday, and the U.S. averaged 3.1 million shots a day last week.

American part of the vaccinated population

More than a third of the U.S. population has received at least one dose of Covid vaccine and more than a fifth have been fully vaccinated, CDC data show.

Of those 65 and older, 78% received at least one dose and 61% were fully vaccinated.
