Cyndi Lauper says Sharon Osbourne is not racist, but may have just spoken wrong because CBS is continuing its investigation into allegations of toxicity on the set of ‘The Talk’.
“I have known her for a long time and do not believe she is racist,” the singer “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” declared on social media on Thursday.
She added, along with a photo of herself and Osbourne, ‘I understand she spoke incorrectly, used the wrong words and acted in other ways. She may have even apologized. But I believe she is sincerely trying to put things right. ”
A bomb report released Tuesday quoted several sources, including former Talk co-host Leah Remini, as saying that Osbourne referred to co-host Julie Chen, who is Chinese-American, as a ‘ wonton ‘and’ oblique eyes’. She also allegedly referred to former co-host Sara Gilbert, who is a lesbian, as a ‘p – y licker’.
Last weekend, Holly Robinson Peete, who co-hosted Osbourne in Season 1 of ‘The Talk’, also accused the Brit of being ‘too ghetto’ for the show.
Osbourne denies the allegations and calls them a “stack”. However, she has apologize for her comments on Piers Morgan after she defended comments on Meghan Markle’s mental health, sparking a heated discussion on the air between her and co-presenter Sheryl Underwood.
Lauper further says that she can not sit and say nothing in defense of her friend.
“We all make mistakes,” she said. “We all want a second chance, but nobody wants to give it a second chance. We all want to be forgiven, but no one wants to forgive. ”
The singer “Time After Time” reiterates that she thinks Osbourne is “sincere” in wanting to change, concluding: “I hope everyone will at least be willing to hear her out.”
Fans have mixed feelings about Lauper’s sentiments, but most agreed: “do not defend it.”
One person wrote: ‘I love you and you [sic] able to choose your own friends … but a woman of her age and celebrity status knows exactly what one is saying … there is no acceptance of racism. ‘
Another said: ‘Please understand that racism is intentional or unintentional … it is still racism !!! Once you are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, there is no excuse for racist behavior anymore. ‘
Meanwhile, Osbourne’s future at “The Talk” is still in the air.
The CBS morning show is interrupted because it investigates complaints about racial insensitivity, and there seems to be an behind-the-scenes blame among producers over who is really responsible for Osbourne and Underwood’s offensive.
