Cyberpunk 2077 staff did not think the game would have to be aired in 2020, the 2018 demo was ‘completely fake’ and more – reported

A new report has given us a deeper insight into the development and launch of Cyberpunk 2077, with comments from the studio challenging the controversial writing after its publication.

According to Bloomberg, the development of Cyberpunk 2077 was even more worrying than the studio allowed – even despite the months of delays that the game eventually suffered.

A massive new report on the site (protected by a paywall) dives into the game’s funny development, exposing tensions between the development staff and CD Project’s management. One developer told Bloomberg that the work at stake was like ‘trying to drive a train while laying the tracks in front of you at the same time’ and that ‘[staff] expected the game to be ready in 2022. ”

The Bloomberg report also concludes that the Cyberpunk 2077 demo that was shown in 2018 was “almost completely fake”.

“CD Project has not yet finalized and coded the underlying game systems, which is why so many features, such as in-car ambush, are missing in the final product,” Bloomberg said. “Developers said they feel the demo was a waste of months to make the game.”

CD Project Studio Director Adam Badowski responded to Bloomberg and disputes the view of the events in a follow-up statement written last night (Saturday, January 16). Badowski says that the demo has always been described as ‘running work’ and that features that appear in the demo, but not the final game, are missing due to ‘the creation process’.

“Our final game looks and plays better than any demo has ever been,” he said in the statement.

Elsewhere, another damning revelation from the report indicates that the game actually started developing in 2016, despite the announcement of the title in 2012. This is mostly due to a massive refurbishment of the project when studio head Adam Badowski took over as director of the title and moves the entire game from third person to first person.

This may give some insight into why the staff did not really believe the game would ever be ready for the launch window for 2020 – and this is something that Badowski did not address in his tweet quoting Jason Schrier and the Bloomberg report did not (along with allegations of severe predicament in the last months before release).

The report follows a video message published by CD Project co-founder Marcin Iwiński, which presented a narrative outlining the events that led to the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and its PS4 and Xbox One games. version. Iwiński blamed the scope of the game, noting that the “plurality of personal objects, interaction systems and mechanics” played a role in making the game feel overwhelming and broken on certain platforms.

The reaction to the game so far has led to both Microsoft and Sony selling the game on digital store windows until issues are resolved. The studio assured the public that developers will not have to work with mandatory troubles again to offer these updates.
