Cyberpunk 2077’s big v1.2 patch was named the big one by CD Project RED, and as we noticed in our PlayStation 5, it undoubtedly enhanced the experience. But what about PS4 Pro consoles? Well, a full analysis has been uploaded by Digital Foundry, and the bottom line is that it’s much, much better – but there are caveats.
The publication reports that while the frame rates are certainly not perfect on Sony’s last-generation charging console, it now stays much closer to its targeted 30 frames per second – even in stressful areas, such as marketplaces. The catch is that the Polish developer turned off asset streaming to the right to achieve this, which means that many objects and materials simply do not appear when you move fast.
The compromise means that scenic details like chairs or ad storage are hidden unless you stop and wait until it loads. Depending on how fast you move, the game may not flow into it at all. Clearly, the version appears under all pop-up consoles anyway, so it may not be the end of the world – and it’s significantly improved performance on PS4 Pro.
Unfortunately, things remain more or less the same on a standard PS4, where the frame rates are everywhere. Digital Foundry reports that there are small improvements in key areas, such as the chase sequence at the beginning of the game, which yields some extra frames – but overall it’s not good enough. We take away from it all? We can not imagine that a return to the PS Store will take place soon.
