Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.10 / 1.11 – has the game improved on PS4 and Xbox One? • Eurogamer.net

CD Projekt RED promised a major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 in January and the studio was delivered properly, with version 1.10 promising a whole host of bug fixes, stability improvements and – at least for PlayStation 4 – the promise of real performance upgrades. And this is crucial, because there is absolutely no doubt about the fact that accidents can be corrected and errors removed, but the fundamental problem is this: the last generation of hardware has the horsepower to deliver a constant level of performance that much closer to the target is 30 fps? Performance analysis of version 1.10 gives us optimism in some respects, but there is still a mountain to climb.

Of course, version 1.10 has since been updated with patch 1.11, which actually provides an update to the hotfix to fix some bugs, but the major optimization and stability push has introduced memory management enhancements and addressed a wide range of bugs. What’s curious is the platform – specific optimizations: there’s a lot of crowd optimization for PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5, but surely the basic PS4 should improve as well? And why would not this optimization also improve the situation for Xbox One users. The Microsoft platform has seen changes in memory management, specifically around the creation of characters, mirrors, camera scanning and more.

But it’s strange that our tests suggest that there are further improvements – and since this is the vanilla PS4 and Xbox One really need a lot of work, these are the platforms we initially chose to look at. Something we can report right away: we did not see the game crash or close, or did not fall back to the front at all. This is not to say that we did not encounter bugs and errors – we certainly did – but clearing up clutter issues and providing a more stable experience is probably the most important goal of CD Project RED. Obviously, our tests are limited to a small area of the game, but we will chalk it out as an important step forward for the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 – the state of affairs regarding performance, stability and errors based on the 1.10 / 1.11 code.

When we play on the standard PlayStation 4, we also see some improvements that apparently were not revealed in the patch notes. In the first place, the image quality seems to be noticeably improving. Even with the compressed video you see on this page, the brightness here should be obvious – perhaps CDPR has adjusted the temporary anti-aliasing component of the renderer, adjusted the grinding to the TAA or the intensity of the pipeline after processing. Regardless, it looks cleaner. Getting a lock for the original resolution in this game is a challenge because of how fast the pixel count shifts, but our impression is that the actual version resolution remains unchanged from the start code – Cyberpunk 2077 just looks cleaner.

In select scenarios, we also noticed improved performance on PS4 – anything up to five or six frames per second, which is quite an achievement, a significant jump in percentage. Interestingly, we saw this happen in scenarios such as the vehicle shooting with the scavengers after the first mission – where CDPR’s declared crowd system optimization would probably have had no impact. Again, the image quality remains clearer and the range of effects remains the same, so this is real progress. But it is clear that we are a pleasant experience. Other areas of the game actually run the same as before, and performance issues remain. In insane shoot-outs, it’s still possible for Cyberpunk 2077 to drop below 20 fps on PlayStation 4, while still having issues with streaming-related issues. It is still very difficult to recommend this game to users of the most popular console of the last generation.

Where is version 1.10 of the Xbox One S? Well, the image brightness enhancement on PlayStation 4 seems to apply to the vanilla Xbox One as well, but beyond the overall stability improvement, all of our test clips showed no noticeable improvement in performance compared to patch 1.02. The brackets that were often extended have disappeared, the improvement in stability is also present, but the actual way the game plays out remains as unsatisfactory as before. Xbox is also the place where I experienced one particularly big problem – and one issue I would like to see as a CDPR address is the way playing on one type of Xbox can affect the experience when you switch to another. For example, if you play on Series X in quality mode, the rate will drop to 15 fps if you switch to Xbox One or Xbox One X. This can only be completely solved by wiping all games from the affected Xboxes. I’ll let you watch the video to see some of the other bugs and bugs I’ve encountered on both platforms.

Our overview of all the latest versions of Cyberpunk 2077, which works on 1.04 code – and not very well on any platform.

Similar to our work on The Witcher 3, we strive to map the progress of Cyberpunk 2077’s various patches and upgrades over time, and after completing work on the base machines, we move on to improved consoles . In our initial tests, PS4 Pro, although still having serious issues in some scenarios, seemed like it was the choice to play the game on the latest generation of systems. So far, impressions suggest that, apart from stability improvements, it’s still the same experience – our test cases involving crowds (an area that CDPR singled out as a focal point for optimization work in 1.10) have shown unconvincing results and certainly no improvement in the game. .

Finally, our download of Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.10 – and indeed 1.11 – is pretty simple. Steps have been taken to eliminate game accidents and improve stability in general – the kind of fundamental improvement that should take precedence, but although there are some improvements to the way the game runs (at least based on PS4), this is not the question we had when we saw the very first demo: is it actually possible to make it work smoothly on a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One? On the PS4 side, there is the idea that real improvements have been made – but at the same time, if there were fundamental optimizations here, I would have expected to see some kind of improvement on the Pro side as well.

Based on prior PR, CDPR’s plan is to deliver an important patch again in February, so we will report on it as soon as the upgrade arrives.
