‘Cyberpunk 2077’ loses 79 percent of player base within a month

CD Project RED’s Fighting RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has lost 79 percent of its player base since it was launched a month ago.

This is according to a new analysis from the video game website GitHyp, which shows that the player base of the game has decreased to 225,000 players per day on Steam from the peak of more than 1 million simultaneous players. For comparison, CD Project RED’s latest version, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, retained more than half of its player base a month after its launch in May 2015.

However, the report also said that the 79 percent drop is typical of most singles games, which usually lose the same percentage or more of its player base, while noting that open world games are usually an exception. GitHyp also pointed out that CDPR has a “proven track record of fixing their games on PC after launch”, and said that this is one of the reasons why the game still maintains a positive average score on Steam.

Despite the controversy over Cyberpunk 2077 and the loss of its player base, the game continued to sell on Steam. According to PCGamesN, the game has remained the best-selling game on Steam since the week ending November 22nd.

CDPR previously claimed more than 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077, even with refund requests on all built-in platforms. According to a previous report, about 8 million of the copies come from pre-orders alone.

CDPR is currently facing a class action lawsuit Cyberpunk 2077‘s cart launch. On Dec. 24, the Manhattan Rosen law firm filed the lawsuit against the developer “on behalf of individuals or entities who purchased or otherwise acquired CD Project Red bonds.”
