Cyberpunk 2077 loses 79% of its players since launch

Cyberpunk 2077, CD Project Red’s most acclaimed RPG title, saw an exponential rise in its player base immediately after its launch. With 1 million simultaneous players on steam in December, the Polish video game developer sold more than 13 million copies of Cyberpunk during its launch.

But soon after, things seemed to be a decadence for the game, as the community ran into an abundance of errors in the game and performance issues. Players on console platforms like Sony’s Playstation and Google’s Stadiums have started claiming refunds amid several performance issues occurring in the game.

According to data from githyp.com, Cyberpunk saw a dip in its player base, which has been just 225,000 active players since last weekend.

This is the first time we’ve seen a Triple-A game experience a major setback right after the launch. The aftermath also led Sony to withdraw the title from its Playstation Store along with the issuance of refunds.

Compared to CDPR’s last major title, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 had the most dubious start. Following the launch, The Witcher project received a 79% drop in its player base that the newly-launched RPG has already encountered. As discussed earlier here on TalkEsport, CDPR may soon find themselves in another problem, a class action lawsuit.
