Back in 2010, Bandai released Namco (then called Namco Bandai) .hack // Link for PSP in Japan, developed by CyberConnect2, but it never comes west.

The vocal president, Hiroshi Matsuyama, of the developer went to YouTube to explain not only why the game was released on PSP, but also why it never came west.

The choice of the platform comes down to the success of the PSP in Japan, as the possibility of a global release at the time was quite an aftermath.

The game also had a more accessible concept compared to its predecessor to entice younger players to try the franchise after the existing fanbase got older.

Why the game was never located is actually quite simple. Bandai Namco’s American and European weapon did not want it because it was for PSP PSP, which was not a very successful platform in the west.

Matsuyama mentioned that the developer must have reconsidered the choice of platform afterwards.

At the moment, there is no indication that the .hack series can see a revival, even if I certainly hope so.

On the other hand, CyberConnect2 is currently working on a Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba game for PS4, which would be coming this year.
