New York Governor Andrew Cuomo asked why his family members received preferential treatment to be tested in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic, and gave a possible explanation as to why people like his brother, Chris Cuomo, CNN anchor, was able. to be more easily tested than the general public.
Peter Haskell, WCBS 880, directly challenged the governor about this and asked what his role was during a Q&A period following a budget briefing.

“Was it appropriate for your family and friends to be tested for covid if others could not do it? Were you involved in this? Were you aware of it?” Ask Haskell.
Cuomo initially responded by saying he did not want to “advance the investigation into the New York State House of Representatives case, but then claimed he was ‘not involved in the test program to the intimate level’.

The governor did say that his family members would have been tested if they had met with him in his office.
“People with whom I would meet and with whom I would be exposed, I was aware that they were being tested,” Cuomo said. “So if you were to see me in my office, you would be tested and that also applied to my family.”

After the Albany Times Union reported that Cuomo’s family members had received preferential tests, New York Attorney General Letitia James called the reported efforts “disturbing” and urged the public ethics committee to review the case “immediately.”
