Cuomo government unveils $ 300B + infrastructure plan; LIRR, Nassau Sewage Plan in Focus

Along with cash from Washington, money will soon come from Albany to Long Island and other parts of the state for major infrastructure projects.

Government Andrew Cuomo on Friday unveiled a proposed $ 300 billion infrastructure proposal. For Long Island, much of the money will be used to add a third lane on a 10-mile stretch of Long Island Rail Road at Hicksville Station west to Floral Park. This project is already underway.

“The biggest concern is that, due to the decline in driving due to the pandemic and the loss of revenue, they would stop funding it. It will not stop the project. The governor gives us the assurance that it will continue and we have a bright future, ”says Marc Herbst, of the Long Island Contractors Association.

State funds will also flow to the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant in southwestern Nassau County.

“With the Bay Park transportation project, it’s going to clean up the environment. It’s going to be a 50% reduction in nitrates,” Cuomo said.

Although the state has a budget deficit of millions of dollars, Cuomo says billions are spent on these projects, which is a smart thing to do because it will put more people to work and also have a positive psychological effect.

“Building new projects, improving daily life and seeing progress also raises people’s spirits,” says Cuomo.

Separately, President-elect Joe Biden is proposing billions for infrastructure projects, which could mean money for road and highway projects across the island and the state.
