Cubs’ Ryan Tepera receives three-match suspension

Major League Baseball suspends Cubs’ right-handed reliever Ryan Tepera three games to deliberately throw to Brewers Brandon Woodruff during Tuesday’s game. Tepera, who also received an unknown fine, is appealing his sentence. In addition, David Ross, manager of Cubs was suspended for Friday’s game against the Braves.

Woodruff exchanged words with Tepera and Cubs’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo after Tepera threw behind him (video here via MLB.com). The incident occurred shortly after Woodruff hit the Cubs catcher Willson Contreras in hand with a pitch. It was the seventh HBP that Contreras has recorded in the past two seasons against the Brewers. When Brewers is Right Brad Boxberger hit Contreras with a pitch on April 6, the two teams’ benches cleaned.

In Tuesday’s game, Contreras took revenge by hitting a two-run homer in the eighth innings to represent the Cubs. The 438-foot shot propelled the Cubs to a 3-2 victory over their division rivals.
