Cuarentena in 5 cities of Colombia for an increase of covid-19 cases

(CNN Español) –– In Colombia, five of the most important cities imposing new restrictions, ante the increase in the number of covid-19 cases, detected in the last hours.

Authorities inform that Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, Barranquilla and Santa Marta will implement a general quarantine for the nearest days. This is with the aim of reducing the spread of the virus.

In Bogotá, for example, Alcaldesa Claudia López declared a red alert for a 77% occupancy of beds in intensive care units of hospitals.

López dijo que la quarentena comienza este jueves a la media noche y se extenderá hasta lunes a las 4 de la mañana.

For his part, the President of Colombia, Ivan Duque, says that it is important to take action to avoid agglomerations in order to fight the virus.

“We know that we can not get the guard,” said the mandate.

In Colombia, these juveniles have been confirmed by more than 2.5 million positive cases of covid-19 and 67,199 deaths related to the onset of the pandemic.
