Crusader Kings 3: Northern Lords will give a viking taste this week, along with a great free update

Crusader Kings 3 developers Paradox Interactive teased a major free 1.3 update over the past month, one that would expand the duel, bring snow, and crash with randomly generated poetry.

Now we know that these additions come this week with the Northern Lords flavor package, which includes the content of the Norwegian theme, including new occasions and viking hairstyles.

Announced during the evening’s Paradox Insider stream, Northern Lords is a ‘taste package’ rather than a full extension. It adds new arts for Norwegian characters, including clothes, hairstyles and beards, new music, new ship models and new events inspired by Norwegian culture.

The free update is the most important part of what’s coming, but the addition of winter naturally connects very nicely with the focus on the icy north. Winters can be mild, normal, or harsh, with the latter causing your troops to suffer more fatalities in combat. I’m from icy Scotland and once broke my wrist while slipping on some ice, but maybe I was lucky to survive.

The free update and the Northern Lords package arrive this coming Tuesday, March 16th. The Northern Lords package costs £ 5.19 / € 7.

Vikings feel quite trendy at the moment, between the last Assassin’s Creed, the great success of Valheim and the upcoming indie games like the Norwegian city builder Frozenheim. Presumably they will wash up on the banks of Verdansk soon enough.
