Criminal rental car, Robs Bank, then returns to buy BMW

A man has admitted federal bank robbery after renting a car from a car dealer, driving it to a bank, robbing the bank and then driving back with the cash to buy a BMW.

50-year-old Eric Dion Warren has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting he had confessed to his daring – if not so well-thought-out – crime.

The incident occurred in 2019 when Warren drove the lender’s car from the dealer to a bank near Lubbock, Texas.

After arriving there, he put down a fast food restaurant on the counter and submitted a note to the cashier: “It’s robbery. Play with me and die. I now want $ 10,000 in 50 and 100 dollar bills. You have 1 minute or I’ll kill you. ‘

He later made a handgun and told the bank staff: ‘I’m not playing around, I just want 100 and 50’.

According to prosecutors, the bank teller gave him the cash in his pocket, but he included a roll of $ 20 notes with recorded serial numbers.

He then took his $ 5,086 back to the same car dealership where he was apparently buying a black BMW car.

The prosecution team said: “Mr Warren started waving the cash he illegally obtained from the bank robbery to employees in the car dealership.”

Isn’t this the smartest step ever?

Things started to unravel for Warren when authorities contacted the car dealer a quarter of an hour later to tell them about the getaway car, which had plates registered with them.

Police then turned up at the dealer and found Warren with the cash, as well as a shotgun that had been altered to look just like a real weapon.

He pleaded guilty to the crime in August.

The official report outlining the crime reads: ‘Mr. Warren was arrested with $ 5,086 cash.

“The serial numbers of the money found on Mr Warren’s person were cross – referenced and correspond to the numbers of the accounts stolen from the AIM bank.

Law enforcement officers also recovered a painted shotgun, resembling a real handgun, about 10 yards from Mr. Warren at the time of his arrest.

“The application letter given to the teller at the bank has been analyzed and confirms the existence of Mr Warren’s fingerprints and DNA.”

All in all, not the smartest idea this guy has ever had.
