SALT LAKE CITY – Utah has officially delivered more than 1 million doses of coronavirus vaccines, Government Secretary Spencer Cox announced on Twitter on Saturday morning.
That number doesn’t quite match the Utah Department of Health’s 993,168 – 25,687 more doses administered than Friday – but the difference may be due to delays. Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson report the number of total “gunshots” at 1,015,380.
A health department spokesman said the government was using internal resources that were updated more frequently than public ones and that Sunday’s official official count would be more than 1 million doses.
Cox said the milestone is incredible and speaks to the dedication of our public health teams and private partners.

Later, the Department of Health released its daily coronavirus update, which revealed 491 newly confirmed cases and four more deaths in the state.
Overall, Utah brings 377,983 confirmed cases and 2,021 related deaths since the pandemic began.
Over the past week, the state has averaged 510 more cases per day and a positive test rate of 4.1%. There are currently 144 Utahns admitted to the hospital due to COVID-19, including 59 in intensive care.
The four deaths reported on Saturday were from:
- A Davis County woman between the ages of 65 and 84 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A Davis County man between 65 and 84 who was admitted to hospital when he died
- A Washington County woman between the ages of 65 and 84 admitted to the hospital
- A man between 45 and 64 years old who was not admitted to the hospital when he died, and whose country is not known
Currently, Utahns 50 years and older are eligible to schedule a coronavirus vaccination, just like Utahns with certain underlying medical conditions. A list of qualifying conditions is available here.
On April 1, Utah plans to be eligible for vaccine for every adult who wants one.
