Cox Government presents COVID-19 update while Utah sees 646 new cases, 23 deaths, 34K vaccinations

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s COVID-19 cases increased by 646 on Thursday, with another 23 deaths and 34,290 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

Fifteen of the deaths occurred before February 11, but are still being investigated by state investigators, according to the health department. Thursday’s death toll puts Utah above 2,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic, with 2,015 total deaths reported Thursday.

According to the health department, the average number of positive cases of seven days per day is now at 524. The positive test rate per day for the period reported using the “people over people” method is now 8.4%. The positive test rate per day of seven days, calculated using the ‘test over test’ method, is now 4%.

There are now 167 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, state data show. A total of 936,681 vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 902,391 on Wednesday.

Utah Government Spencer Cox delivered an update on the COVID-19 pandemic at a news conference on Thursday morning.
