Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith says contract termination shows no ‘commitment to Roof Prescott’

Legendary NFL fullback Emmitt Smith believes the Dallas Cowboys are not sure if Dak Prescott is the ‘future’ of the team.

Smith, who has won three Super Bowls in 13 seasons with the Cowboys, told the SB Nation NFL Show this week that there would be no back and forth over Prescott’s contract if Dallas were out to be their quarterback not.

“The only answer I can give is that the Cowboys are not sure if he is the future of the Cowboys,” Smith said via KRLD radio. “Other than that, if he were the full future of the Dallas Cowboys, they would do nothing to give him a contract.”

Earlier in the off-season, Prescott signed a $ 31.4 million franchise after failing to negotiate a long-term deal with the team. He suffered an ankle injury against the New York Giants on Oct. 11, but owner Jerry Jones made it clear that Dallas was still invested in Prescott.

“You would not offer Dak what we have offered in the past if you did not think he was very special,” Jones said in January. ‘The question is how do you get together? And this is no stranger to me. I’ve been doing this my whole life and putting things together. We need to get it together. ‘

But Smith reads between the lines, saying there is no ‘commitment’ to Prescott.

“I mean at the end of the day, Tony Romo, they were immediately committed to Romo,” Smith explained. “He’s going right away. And he came in and replaced Drew Bledsoe. And I mean, he’s not the biggest guy. He’s not the smartest man and neither is he the fastest. And he had his challenges. But “There was a commitment to Tony Romo. There is no commitment to Dak Prescott.”

Sources told the NFL Network on Sunday that the Cowboys are planning to make another attempt to sign Prescott to a long-term deal before the March deadline for applying franchise labels, otherwise they will sign him at a second label worth $ 37.7 million.
