COVID vaccine updates: Experts say US may have another coronavirus boom

NEW YORK (WABC) – Optimism is spreading in the U.S. as COVID-19 deaths decline and state restrictions and open vaccinations for younger adults are facilitated. But across Europe, fears are hitting another wave of infections closing schools and cafes and closing new ones.

The divergent paths of the pandemic on the two continents can be partly linked to the much more successful vaccination of vaccines in the USA and the spread of more infectious variants in Europe.

However, US health experts say that what is happening in Europe should serve as a warning to ignore social distance or abandon other guarantees too soon.

“Each of these countries has had disadvantages as we have now, and each has had an upward trend after ignoring well-known mitigation strategies,” said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said. “They simply took their eye off the ball.”

Biden speech on the progress of the vaccination of COVID-19 comes at a critical point
President Joe Biden will pay attention on Thursday to the progress his government has made in achieving its goal of getting 100 million coronavirus vaccines into the arms of Americans within its first 100 days in office, a White House official told CNN. The US is on track to reach the 100 million vaccine milestone before Biden hits 60 days in office – which the president set as a new goal during a national speech last week. US unemployment claims rise to 770,000 with layoffs still high
The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits rose to 770,000 last week, a sign that redundancies remain high, even as the U.S. economy gradually recovers from the resonance in the coronavirus. The Labor Department’s report on Thursday showed that jobless claims had risen from 725,000 the previous week. The numbers have fallen sharply since the depths of the recession last spring, but it still shows that employers in some industries are still laying off workers. Before the pandemic took place, the number of applications for unemployment benefits in no week exceeded 700,000. The average four-week claim, which facilitates weekly variations, has dropped to 746,000, the lowest since late November.
