COVID vaccine does not mean you can let go :: WRAL.com

Health officials say while the number of people being vaccinated in the state continues to rise, you should not give up.

Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in North Carolina are declining, but doctors say we need more people to be vaccinated before we can reunite in groups.

Some people who receive the vaccine relax social distance and wear the mask after their first shot, Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC.

“I don’t think people should feel completely safe after the first shot,” Gottlieb told CNBC.

Experts believe that this is especially true for someone who is older or has pre-existing conditions and may be more vulnerable to coronavirus.

The majority of the population must be immune to coronavirus to achieve herd immunity and to be safe to remove masks. Experts estimate that 70% of the U.S. population – which is more than 200 million people – must be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, according to the Mayo Clinic.

According to researchers, it is not yet clear whether a coronavirus infection makes someone immune to the virus, and therefore social distance, mask wear and vaccines are the key to stopping the spread. Anthony Fauci, kenner dr. Anthony Fauci, may continue to wear masks until next year.

“We’ve vaccinated a lot more people,” said Dr David Wohl, an infectious disease expert at UNC. ‘I’m really hopeful about it [this] summer time will be very different from last summer time. ‘

According to recent data from the CDC, nearly 84,000 people in North Carolina received their second dose of coronavirus vaccine.
