COVID NY update: the COVID vaccine is scarce at the state and uses the second doses as the first doses to the federal government, says Cuomo

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – New York City and the state of New York have become completely dehydrated from intestinal vaccines. The next consignment will only be expected next week.

The news comes as more and more hospitals are canceling the vaccination appointments without new appointments until Monday.

15 vaccine centers also closed.

Governor Andrew Cuomo blames the former Trump administration for opening up too many categories of suitability without increasing supply.

“It had to be opened as you were assigned. Anyway, that’s not what we did, that’s not what they did. And now you have a period of confusion and anxiety because you have seven million people on it. Trying to hit 250,000 a week, ‘Cuomo said.

Another quarter of a million doses arrive ahead of time next week, but government officials say that is far from enough.

Some have suggested that the second doses, which are stored, be used as first doses.

Cuomo said on Saturday during a visit to a pop-up site for the vaccination of COVID-19 in a NYCHA complex in Brooklyn that Cuomo said it would only be possible with the cooperation of the federal government.

“The reason the federal government has to agree is because they have to agree that they will send you enough second doses in the future. Otherwise, you want them to give people first doses and then you do not have a second dose for them, ”Cuomo said.

Health experts say that the administration of the second dose of the vaccine within the period set out in the federal guidelines is critical to ensure long-term protection.

To date, more than one million people in the state have received their first dose of the vaccine.

At a Friday briefing, Cuomo said deliveries of the week are six awards, about 250,400 doses, on the way, but the deliveries “are delivered by the federal government in different ways and they arrive at different times during the week. “

The state can administer about 80,000 doses a day and can easily do 100,000 a day, Cuomo said.

“The moment the vaccines arrive, our goal is to get them into our arms as soon as possible. 250 to 400 doses per week is not enough,” Cuomo said.
