Albany, NY – New York is still finding thousands of new Covid-19 cases a day.
The state confirmed another 5,807 new cases on Sunday and reported another 127,005 test results. Although new cases have been declining daily since approaching 20,000 on January 14, the daily totals are still much higher than in summer and early fall.
The daily totals were often less than 1,000, but the state also conducted fewer tests at the time.
A total of 4,517 people were in New York hospitals on Sunday due to the coronavirus, which is higher than 31. Hospital admissions have dropped since they sometimes climbed more than 9,000 in January.
A total of 923 people in New York were in intensive care units yesterday with Covid-19, four down, and 614 were intubated, less than five.
Another 58 people died yesterday due to the virus, bringing the total death toll to 39,585. New deaths per day have decreased since it was more than 200 on January 13th.
It remains higher than the single-digit daily totals in summer and early fall.
The nationwide percentage of people who tested positive for the virus was 4.57% on Sunday and the seven-day average of the state-wide positive rate was 3.22%, compared to 3.15% the previous day.
The positive rate average of seven days in Central New York was 0.82%, compared to 0.84% the previous day.
New York has confirmed 1,734,213 cases of Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic.
