Covid hospitalizations continue to be of concern in Allegheny, Westmoreland

A day after a data breach by a laboratory in Allegheny County resulted in more than 1,300 additional cases being reported, the province saw 403 cases on Thursday.

The abnormally high number of cases Wednesday is attributed to the delayed return of data to the state and country.

The 403 cases are more in line with the daily reports since the beginning of the year. The average of seven days before the data crash was in the 400s. With the survey going from Wednesday to Wednesday, the average of seven days rises to 548 for Thursday.

The new cases of coronavirus – 296 confirmed and 107 likely – in the province range in age from 2 months to 95 years with a mean age of 31 years. The division of the newly reported cases is 197 men and 206 women.

The additional cases of coronavirus bring the total of Allegheny County to 92,788 since the start of the pandemic last year.

Westmoreland County saw another 152 cases on Thursday. The seven-day average for the province is 145. Notably, the country has added 1,018 cases over the past seven days. This is the first time since January that the province has more than 1,000 cases for a period of seven days.

Westmoreland has seen 31,153 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Pennsylvania added 5,060 additional cases on Thursday. The state Department of Health noted that the laboratory that began submitting data this week is still being captured and has submitted another 307 positive antigen test results collected more than four days ago.

Pennsylvania’s total number of cases stands at 1,092,852.

Hospitalizations

Covid-related hospitalizations continued to trend upward at state and county levels.

According to state data, the number of residents admitted to the hospital across the country due to the virus is 2,577, less than three as of Wednesday. This comes after 39 additional hospitalizations were added on Wednesday and 67 on Tuesday.

In the state, there are currently 265 covid patients on ventilators and 572 in ICUs.

According to state data, 286 residents of Allegheny County are being hospitalized for covid (one as of Wednesday), 88 of them are in intensive care units and 35 of them are in a ventilator.

Although hospitalizations in the country are not as high as in December and January, they climbed from 153 to 15 March in the past month.

In Westmoreland County, 61 covid patients are admitted to the hospital, with 10 in the ICU and five in ventilators. Hospitalizations in Westmoreland also climbed this month – at the beginning of April there were 23 patients admitted to the hospital. This comes after an unexplained decrease in hospitalizations on 18 to 26 individuals.

Deaths

The health department reported 44 additional deaths as the total of the state grew to 25,566. Of the 44 deaths just reported on Thursday, 42 are from April and two from March.

The Allegheny County Department of Health did not add any new deaths; its total stands at 1,828.

The state health department has a total of 1860 deaths in Allegheny County. No reason was given for the difference between the two health departments.

Westmoreland County has one additional covid death, bringing the total number of covid deaths in the province to 719.

Vaccinations

In a press conference on Wednesday, dr. Debra Bogen, director of the department of health in Allegheny County, stresses that people should get the vaccine as soon as possible.

“The fewer people are vaccinated, the longer this virus will linger in our lives. The best way to defeat this virus is to continue the vaccination as quickly as possible,” Bogen said.

She did say that more than 50% of the adult population in Allegheny County was partially vaccinated for covid-19. And among residents older than 65, more than 78% received at least one dose.

The state reported Thursday that 528,208 Allegheny County residents (43.2% of all residents, including those aged 16 and under) received at least one dose of a covide vaccine, while 298,513 individuals were fully covered. (24.4% of all residents). ).

The state reported that 131,966 residents of Westmoreland County (36.1% of residents) received at least one dose of a covide vaccine, while 79,159 individuals were fully covered (21.6% of residents).

Across the state, more than 4.4 million people (34.8% of residents) received at least one dose of a vaccine, and more than 2.5 million were vaccinated (20.1% of residents).
