Covid cases increased by 18% in Seattle area as region reopens

Covid cases are higher in King County, 18% higher than two weeks ago. And more outbreaks are being linked to restaurants, bars and travel.

At the same time, gyms, restaurants and many other businesses in the state of Washington can open up to 50% capacity from Monday.

King Jeff’s public health official, Dr Jeff Duchin, said at a news conference on Friday that he hopes people continue to take precautions and avoid indoor spaces where people are unmasked or if ventilation is poor.

“The risk is not gone – the virus is still with us,” he said.

‘The vast majority of the population is still susceptible to Covid-19. The viruses that are currently circulating are more effective in spreading from person to person, ”he explained. “So I think these factors will increase the transfer.”

Duchin said thousands of people in King County now have infected Covid.

“It would be unfortunate if many people became infected during the next month or two, just because vaccines would be widely available to most of the population,” he said.

Duchin said that, thanks to vaccination, the cases among people are over 65, but it is among people in their twenties and thirties. He added that Covid ‘is not an insignificant disease, not even for younger adults’. Many of them still have symptoms months after their diagnosis.
