Covid cases fall slightly in Pennsylvania, deaths are declining

Pennsylvania has recorded a slight increase in cases of covid-19, but sees a downward trend in covid-related deaths and a decrease in hospitalizations.

The state added Friday 3,074 new covid cases, most in a single day this month, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The average of seven days is 2,466 new business, a number that has been declining since the beginning of the year.

The total is now 961 456 cases in the past year.

The state added 40 fatalities for a total of seven days of 268, the lowest total of seven days since mid-November. The total number of deaths associated with covid is now 24,530.

Pennsylvania has 1,463 people hospitalized due to covid-19, the least since early November. Hospitals across the country have been declining since reaching a peak of more than 6,300 in December.

Currently, there are 313 patients in intensive care units and 165 on ventilators.

Teachers and child care workers across the state are being offered the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in a program that began this week in Intermediate Units.

“As of today, 20 IP vaccination works are in operation across the state, and eight more will begin tomorrow,” said Randy Padfield, director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. “To date, more than 6,500 doses have been administered at IU clinics.”


Allegheny county

Allegheny County reported 296 additional cases on Friday for an average of seven days out of 235 cases, roughly where it has been since early February.

Of the new cases, 214 are confirmed by 941 new PCR tests, the most confirmed cases reported so far in a single day so far this month, according to the health department. Four of the positive cases are more than a week old. The dates of the tests were January 27 to March 11 and the ages of the patients ranged from one to 86.

The province reported nine additional deaths related to covid bringing the total to 1,731 in the past year. Of the new deaths, four were related to long-term care facilities. One of the deaths occurred in February, the rest in March. According to the province, one person was in their 40s, three in their 70s, three in their 80s and two were in their 90s.

Allegheny has 169 people hospitalized for covid-19, with 51 of those in intensive care units and 17 in ventilators.

There are a total of 5,361 people admitted to the country for covid-19.


Westmoreland county

Westmoreland added 66 cases, bringing the average from seven days to 58, where it has been three of the past seven days. The province has accounted for 27,494 cases since March last year.

No additional deaths have been reported with respect to covid, leaving the total at 688 so far. This is the fourth day this month in which the country has not reported any new deaths.

The province has 120 joint patients in hospitals, with four in intensive care units and one in a ventilator.
