The New England Journal of Medicine has published numerous photos of what some of the so-called ‘COVID arm’ rash looks like. However, doctors say that fear of a rash is not a reason to skip your chance of getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
The certified dermatologist, dr. Shirley Chi, has seen the result in some of her patients.
“All the reactions were to the Moderna vaccine and experts are not sure why the Moderna vaccine looks slightly more allergic in this way,” Chi said.
“So, this is a normal reaction we are seeing. That does not mean you should get your COVID vaccine,” she added. “You should get it as soon as possible, and if you have such a reaction, you should talk to your doctor about it, and we can treat it.”

Millions of people have already received photos of the Pfizer, Moderna and the newly available Johnson & Johnson vaccines, and many reactions have been noticed, including injection site soreness, general fatigue and sometimes fever.
These reactions usually occur within a day or two after the injection, but some people who receive the Moderna vaccine develop the mysterious rash – sometimes as much as eight to ten days after the injection.
“I have had several patients who have had this type of delayed reaction. There comes one patient in particular ten days after she had her first COVID vaccine, and she had bumps on her arm where she had her vaccination,” Chi said. said. . “It extends to her wrist and actually to her torso. We treat her with antihistamines without a prescription and she starts to get better.”
Chi says it is important to announce the word on the outcome of the “COVID arm”. She says the redness can usually be treated with antihistamines, but sometimes a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug must be prescribed to completely solve the problem.
