COVID-19 Vaccinations in Veterans Homes in Alabama Begin Tuesday

The vaccination of COVID-19 for 468 residents and 850 staff members at Alabama’s four state veterans’ homes is about to begin, the Department of Veterans Affairs has learned.

Vaccinations with the Pfizer vaccine begin Tuesday at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City.

The vaccinations will continue for the next two weeks:

  • Dec. 31 at the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville.
  • January 7 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette.
  • January 11 at Colonel Robert L. Howard Veterans Home in Pell City.

“Our health care team has been working for several weeks with the Department of Public Health in Alabama to plan the vaccinations for our former residents and staff,” Kent Davis, commission of ADVA, said in a press release. “Our medical staff at the state veterans are prepared to administer the first and subsequent rounds of the vaccine from tomorrow.”

The health care provider for Alabama’s four state veterans’ homes, Health Management Resources of Alabama, Inc., is working with Walgreens to administer the Pfizer vaccine in two doses. The second dose will come three weeks after the first dose.

Healthcare workers and nursing home residents have early access to vaccines under guidelines set by the federal government and states.
