A pair of new pop-up COVID-19 vaccination sites are being erected on Long Island this week to offer the first doses to thousands of New Yorkers.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that 35 community-based pop-up vaccination sites will be online this week at churches, community centers, public housing complexes and cultural centers across the state to ensure the state’s commitment to fairness and equity in the vaccine distribution process. . ”
On Long Island, vaccination sites have been set up at the Long Island Islamic Center on Brush Hollow Road in Westbury and St. Louis. Rosalie’s Hampton Bays on the East Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays.
Both sites opened on Wednesday, February 3rd. The 35 sites are expected to vaccinate more than 25,000 people this week, with the expectation that additional sites will open in the coming weeks.
According to Cuomo, nearly 9,000 New Yorkers have received a dose of COVID-19 since January 15 on pop-up websites in the community. Vaccination sites are planned for all 33 NYCHA Senior Housing Developments, and at more than 300 churches and cultural centers that volunteer to house the homes.
“COVID has brought the ugly truth of inequality and inequality to a tipping point in this country,” Cuomo said. ‘COVID has killed black and Latino New Yorkers at a higher rate, which is why these community-based sites are one of the vaccine in New York. priorities.
