Press Release of the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Twenty-one new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Humboldt County since the latest report on Friday. The total number of provincial residents who tested positive for the virus now stands at 3,370 residents.

Humboldt County Public Health is holding two large-scale COVID-19 vaccination clinics this week, in partnership with local health care providers, and expects to administer approximately 1,300 doses. More than 600 of these clinic rooms have been reserved for second doses.

Clinic appointments are still by invitation only. To fill the appointments available for those aged 65 and over, Public Health uses information submitted via the online interest form, based on the vaccination priorities set out by the state.

To access the interest form:

Other locally approved vaccinators are directly contacting their qualifying patients to plan vaccinations.

Groups currently prioritized for vaccination include:

  • Age 65 and older – All residents of the province in this age group qualify.
  • Emergency Services – All emergency law enforcement, firefighters and medical staff, including volunteer and paid staff
  • K-12 and early education, childcare – All staff, paid and volunteers, working in a K-12 or early childhood education environment as educators or support staff. This includes assistants and office staff, as well as transportation, conservation, cafeteria and maintenance workers.
  • Higher education – All educators and support staff.
  • Phase 1A healthcare – All workers in this sector.
  • Those 16-64 with specific high-risk medical conditions or disabilities – Residents of the province are considered to be at greatest risk of becoming ill due to COVID-19.

Vaccination priorities are determined by the state of California, and the ability to vaccinate additional groups is severely limited by the available supply. Without a significant increase in the weekly allowance, it would take months before Humboldt County would have enough doses to vaccinate everyone in these sectors and age groups.
