Press Release of the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Two provincial residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19, and 53 new cases were reported today. The total number of provincial residents who tested positive for the virus now stands at 1,731.

Both people who died were in their 80s and residents of the Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Granada. The Humboldt County Health Officer, dr. Ian Hoffman, expressed his sympathy with those who lost loved ones to COVID-19, and encouraged everyone in the community to do their part to stop the spread, especially with the onset of the New Year holidays.

Dr Hoffman said: “We have seen a significant increase in local business after Thanksgiving, mainly due to travel, and we have not yet seen the full impact of holiday travel during the Christmas holidays.” He added that individual choices are essential to limit the impact of the virus. ‘Please choose to stay home this New Year’s Eve, especially if you are ill. Find ways to celebrate celebrations that avoid crowds and gatherings, and follow all safety precautions, including wearing a mask, washing hands, and keeping away from people you do not live with.
