Press Release of the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Twenty additional cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing the total number of residents of the country who tested positive for the virus to 2,672.

Humboldt County also reported five new hospitalizations related to COVID-19 today for a total of 13 this week, which is more than any previous week of the pandemic. Public health officials have pointed out that hospitalizations are a few weeks behind with the increase in cases, and have urged residents of the country to be vigilant and follow all preventive measures, noting that simple precautions can have a big impact if everyone sticks to them.

Between today and Thursday, about 1,000 health care providers and emergency services workers, including firefighters and law enforcement officers, are scheduled to be vaccinated at public health clinics. An additional 250 healthcare providers are scheduled to receive their second dose on Friday.

Educators also began receiving vaccination invitations for vaccination from the Humboldt County Office of Education or their district, starting with about 1,000 educators and support staff at districts and charter schools that currently offer personalized training. An additional 2,100 educators and support staff engaged in distance learning will soon be invited to a clinic. Public Health expects all educators and support staff to receive an invitation by mid-February, depending on the availability of vaccines.

Other designated local vaccine providers are planning nearly 600 people aged 75 and older for clinics this week. Those attending this week’s clinics received invitations after completing COVID-19’s vaccine interests form in the country.

Providers approved to administer vaccine will contact their patients who are 75 years of age or older directly as doses become available. Anyone, especially those who do not have a provider, can fill out the interest form to be notified when appointments are available, and more than 10,700 provincial residents have completed the form so far. Visit humboldtgov.org/InterestForm to access the form.
