One death, 34 new cases reported since Friday

A Humboldt County resident in their 70s has died with COVID-19, and 34 additional cases of the virus have been reported since Friday. The total population of the country that tested positive for COVID-19 now stands at 3,621.

This is the 38de death related to COVID-19 in Humboldt County. Staff from the public health and emergency surgery center share their sympathy with the person’s friends, caregivers and family.

Temporary solution developed for ‘My Turn’ edition

Many COVID-19 vaccinations are available locally this week, and Humboldt County residents are encouraged to sign up now at MyTurn.ca.gov. Do not wait to be contacted. Although My Turn is designed to provide notifications about upcoming openings, the best way to find an appointment is to visit the site regularly.

The state’s My Turn portal has introduced geofencing that restricts people living more than 40 km from a clinic site to seeing available appointments, meaning residents of much of South Humboldt could not see or plan appointments . This restriction has affected many, if not all, rural counties in California, and local public health officials are addressing it directly with the state.

Before the state can resolve the issue, residents of the county only need to enter ‘Humboldt County’ on the ‘Let’s find an appointment’ page of the My Turn website, the third page of the appointment planner. . This means that residents will import ‘Humboldt County’ at two different locations.

Anyone with questions can call the state’s COVID-19 hotline at 1-833-422-4255 or the Humboldt County Joint Information Center at 707-441-5000.

There are also alternatives to My Turn. Vaccination hours for walk-ins are scheduled for 18 to 19 hours Wednesday to Sunday in the Arcata Community Center, located at dr. Martin Luther King, Pkwy, 321. The federal government also supports the planning of vaccinations at local pharmacies via https://vaccinefinder.org/.

Johnson & Johnson vaccination remains ‘interrupted’

The administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is still suspended. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for Disease Control and Prevention will meet to review cases of a rare but severe blood clot that has developed in six women after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said he expects a decision on the continuation of the interruption will be made when the committee meets Friday.
