Press Release of the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

No new cases of COVID-19 have been reported today, so the total number of residents of the country tested positive for the virus remains at 3,025. Public health officials said that while no cases are always good news, today’s report follows a national holiday when the Humboldt County Public Health Laboratory closed and most commercial laboratories did not provide data. Health officials have urged residents of the community to continue to follow all COVID-19 safety precautions when they are with those who are not part of a household.

Humboldt County remains in the “Purple” or widespread level below California’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”, with a positive rate of 4.2% and an adjusted rate of 9. The province has the measure of the state’s health equity reach. If the province continues to meet this criterion and local virus data remains stable or improves for another week, the province would be eligible for the “Red” or significant level. Go to covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/ to read more about the Blueprint.

Preparations are currently underway to vaccinate food and agricultural workers who are part of the younger workforce, but the timing for opening this group is based on the available vaccine supply as well as the number of vaccines on the market approved for emergency use. Higher education also plans to open up for vaccination appointments as supply increases and earlier groups are vaccinated in larger numbers.

Younger adults – the age groups 20-29 and 30-39 years – represent 1 305, or about 43%, of the 3 025 cases of the country. Vaccination for people in these age groups who are not part of a qualifying workforce can be months away due to the state’s priority on age, which is why health officials have emphasized the importance of conducting routine tests for COVID-19 .
