Two new mutated COVID-19 cases involving the ‘tension that climbed into a plane in the UK and flew to New York’ have been reported on Long Island.
Both cases have been reported in Suffolk County, along with two others related to the initial outbreak of the variant strain in New York State, bringing the total to more than 20 such cases.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday, January 20, that it’s been a full year since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Washington.
“It’s one year, so let’s learn a lesson in life that it’s OK to be knocked on your back, but let’s take advice from it, get up and learn the lesson that knocked you on your back , “Cuomo said during a COVID-19 briefing in Albany on Wednesday. “This country has not done that. We know that this virus mutates, so let’s learn.
“So far the mutated tribes are different and more dangerous, and that this British tribe,” he continued. “The CDC casually mentions that this British tribe could take over by March, and if that happens, our infection rate will skyrocket.”
Cuomo also warned that there are likely to be other mutated tribes from Brazil and South Africa in New York, although no cases have been confirmed.
The governor noted that the Wadsworth Center for New Tribes had been tested, although there was no positive identification.
“It’s just a matter of time until there is a very deadly strain, and I unfortunately believe you should expect a species that is vaccine resistant,” Cuomo said. ‘It’s almost a matter of probability.
“There may be a strain that requires a new vaccine, that’s a possibility,” he added. “We’ve done so much vaccine work that it’s possible to come up with a new vaccine quickly, but then we’ll have to administer it.”
Cuomo reiterates his call that all international travelers entering the country, specifically to New York, must receive and pass a COVID-19 test before they can be admitted to or from an aircraft.
“We play Russian Roulette with this virus … We know it mutates worldwide, so why do we still allow international people to fly to our airport without taking tests,” he questioned. ‘It’s one year later … Why do not we learn the lesson of a year ago? This is how New York ended up in this situation.
“Why would not you say to all international travelers: ‘you need to be tested’,” Cuomo added. “It’s basic common sense and the realization of the lessons we had to learn last year.”
