Covid-19 in Onondaga County: Three more deaths if confirmed cases are 28,000

Syracuse, NY – Three more people have died from Covid-19 in the past day as the number of confirmed cases in Onondaga County was more than 28,000, according to the provincial government.

This means that about 1 in 16 people in the country have tested positive for the coronavirus since March.

According to provincial executive Ryan McMahon, two women, 84 and 71, have been killed since Saturday. A third person died in a nursing home; the country does not have demographic information on the losses.

A total of 579 people have died here since the virus was first detected in March. As of Saturday, the province had a little over 3,400 active businesses.

At the same time, the declining number of new cases, according to McMahon, offers hope.

In the past day, the country has confirmed another 299 cases. According to the data, this makes seven days in a row with daily reports of new cases under 300.

“Our best week in terms of new business since November,” McMahon wrote on social media. “We turn around and have to stick to the basics.”

Overall, the country confirmed 28,253 cases.

Hospitalizations remain high but stable.

According to McMahon, there were 170 patients in hospitals in Syracuse today. That’s just one patient more than Saturday’s report.

Thirty-seven patients remain in intensive care.

McMahon urged people to continue to follow safety guidelines, including staying home when they are sick and avoiding parties and crowds.

“Do not become complacent about meetings, we can do much better,” he said.
