Covid-19 in Onondaga County: Less than 400 new cases for the sixth consecutive day, another 5 die

Syracuse, NY – The number of new Covid-19 cases in Onondaga County remained below 400 for the sixth consecutive day, Onondaga County CEO Ryan McMahon said Saturday.

The decline in the province’s Covid-19 case load follows a four-day run from January 7 to January 10 in which the country registered more than 450 cases each day.

According to McMahon, Onondaga County’s current positive rate of seven days also dropped to 5.5%. That was 8.6% two weeks ago.

Despite the increasingly better numbers, five people have died from Covid-19 since Friday. Those who died were 87, 79, 59, 96 and 87 years old.

The number of people currently hospitalized with Covid-19 has dropped by 22 people to 175. Saturday is the first time since Dec. 2 that as few as 175 have been hospitalized with the new coronavirus.

Thirty-nine of those admitted to the hospital are currently in the intensive care unit and seven people are waiting to be transferred to the Covid-19 transition unit.
