COVID-19 hospitalizations decline as the new year begins

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Department of Public Health on Friday reported a total of 575 COVID-19 hospital admissions in the state. The number is 25 lower than yesterday.

As of 10:30 Friday, the use of ICUs and fans is also no longer available. The state reported 117 patients in the ICU (lower than 134 Thursday this time) and 63 patients on ventilators (up from 69 Thursday).

The state reported over the past 24 hours that an additional 2,132 Iowans tested positive for COVID-19, and the state added another 7 reported COVID-19 deaths.

According to state data, a total of 282,435 Iowans tested positive for COVID-19 this morning and 3,898 Iowans have died from the virus since the pandemic began.

These data show that COVID-19 was the underlying cause of 3,578 deaths, and COVID-19 was a contributing factor in 320 deaths.

A total of 241,228 Iowans recovered COVID-19.

According to data provided by the state, 4,629 tests have been reported over the past 24 hours. A total of 1 359 654 tests have been done since the pandemic started. According to these data, the positivity rate over the past 24 hours was 46.1 percent.
