COVID-19 cases in health workers rise

MADISON, Wis (WMTV) – The number of COVID-19 cases in health workers in Wisconsin has increased over the past two weeks, says the state’s top health agency.

The Department of Health Services reported Monday that there were 42 health workers who experienced COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for the virus during the week of March 28th.

In the weeks before 21 March and 14 March, 33 and 25 employees, respectively, were reported with these criteria.

DHS on Monday confirmed 402 new COVID-19 cases in the state, although cases are usually reported lower on the first business day of the week.

The seven-day moving average continued to rise this week, now standing at 789 cases. This is the highest that has been the average of seven days since it was reported on February 13 in 806 cases.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 585,710 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Wisconsin.

Thirty-four state residents were hospitalized Monday for COVID-19, bringing the total number of hospitalizations to 288. This means that there are 47 more patients admitted to hospital than the previous week, as well as 76 more cases than last month.

There are also 72 patients in the ICU.

Three people died on Monday from COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 6,680.

Nearly 400,000 COVID-19 vaccine administered last week

Last week, 394,345 COVID-19 vaccines were administered, the highest week yet for vaccinations in Badger State.

So far this week, DHS reports that 9,195 doses have been administered.

Nearly 25% of people in the state have completed their vaccination series, while just over 37% have received at least one dose.

Nearly 10% more women received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine compared to men in the state, at 41.4% and 32.8%, respectively. For those who have completed their vaccine range, women are listed at 28.4%, while men stand at 20.2%. Women have been consistently ahead of men in Wisconsin over the past few months regarding vaccinations.

Nearly half of Dane County residents received at least one shot and nearly 32% completed their vaccination series. The only other provinces in south-central Wisconsin that were higher than 40% for the first doses were the provinces of Green and Iowa.

Dodge County also reached three out of ten residents who received at least one COVID-19 shot Monday, meaning all counties in the South Central region are now at least 30% for the first doses.
