COVID-19 boom will be expected in two weeks, medical systems will adapt

(WXYZ) – The numbers tell most of the story. Beaumont, medical director, dr. Nick Gilpin, says they have 90 to 90% capacity in their eight hospital facilities with more than 800 COVID-19 patients.

A year ago it was 1200 to 1300, and some hospitals were almost exclusively for COVID.

Dr. Gilpin also says that staff are the biggest concern going forward and says: “We can open beds, we can create whole wings of the hospital if we have to, but if we do not have people to man those beds, we have nothing.”

Henry Ford Health System has a capacity of 90% and 20% of the people tested for COVID are positive. Henry Ford is working with the state to implement the monoclonal antibody treatment discussed by Governor Whitmer yesterday.

Anyone who tests positive should talk to a doctor about IV treatment to stay out of the hospital. Henry Ford Health System will hit the waves with an advertising campaign with this app.

Henry Ford also feels the pinch of staff and adjustments. Henry Ford Macomb has the largest number of COVID cases out of five facilities.
