As we think of Captain Tom Moore, who was in the hospital and tested positive for Covid, we need to remind ourselves of how he captured the hearts of the country.
It all started with a sponsored 100-round walk from his garden in Bedfordshire in hopes of raising £ 1,000 for NHS charities.
“To all the people who are currently finding it difficult,” he said, addressing a British audience who saw life coronavirus upside down, “the sun will shine over you again and the clouds will disappear.”
When he reached the finish line, he became a social media phenomenon and raised an astonishing £ 12 million. By tea time the same day, donations had risen to £ 15 million. And the total continues to grow and grow and has now surpassed £ 39 million.
Captain Tom’s life story, which is now a ‘national treasure’, and the title is a ‘national treasure’, becomes the subject of a major new film.
The untitled film focuses on the veteran’s relationship with his younger family, with whom he moved after the death of his wife Pamela. The couple had been married for 40 years.
The film will also use his military career and show how the horrors of the war shaped his life and inspired him to keep walking, even though he endured a long battle with skin cancer and a broken hip.
Now there is speculation about who will play him.
