Trump has been charged for a historic second time after being charged with “inciting rebellion” over the deadly mob of the Capitol. Ten Republican members of the House joined the Democrats and said the president should be held accountable.
Democrats put pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., To call for a 2004 resolution that could quickly bring the Senate back for an emergency session to begin the indictment as soon as possible. But McConnell’s office said Wednesday it would not call for the resolution, meaning any indictment will almost certainly not begin before Trump leaves office.
Cotton was once seen as an ally of the president, but some Trump supporters criticized him after he said he would not act against counting certified votes to confirm President Joe Biden’s election victory.
Cotton said in the statement that fidelity to the Constitution should always remain ‘the biggest star for our country’.
