Cotton says Dems will do anything for power amid prosecution by Supreme Court

Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, took to Twitter late Wednesday to anger Democrats over their plan that will soon be announced to expand the number of judges in the U.S. Supreme Court.

The move, though dramatic, was somewhat expected.

During the 2020 presidential campaign, then-candidate Joe Biden was criticized by Republicans for appearing outspoken when asked if he would sue. Biden said he would tell Americans his point of view after the election, but ultimately said he was not a supporter of the idea.

In January, he announced that a dual group of scholars would study potential changes to the federal judiciary.

Cotton, who was allegedly considered during the presidency of Donald Trump in the Supreme Court, tweeted that the institution was being “destroyed” by the bank pack.

“The Democrats will do anything for power,” he posted. Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows also tweeted: “The moderate left is gone.”

“That’s who they are now,” he posted. “Open borders. Prohibition of voter ID. Free health care for illegal migrants. And now court packaging.”

The Intercept reported on Wednesday that the legislation – which will be announced on Thursday – proposes to expand the court to 13 judges, out of nine. The Supreme Court has had nine judges since the 19th century, although this is not required by the Constitution.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the commission a “direct attack on our country’s independent judiciary.”
